Asylum Superintendent Dr. Frederic Heigels, a philosophical disciple of Nietzche’s superman, believed that the convention of morality was an obstacle to freedom, that a mind was not truly whole until freed from the illusion of Right and Wrong. His ‘therapies’ were tortures designed to destroy the conscience and blur the lines of good and evil. Story is that a cult is born, inmates become brainwashed disciples of Dr. Heigels, culminating on their ‘release’ where a three day rampage took its toll on the city. Heigels and some trusted, like minded inmates kidnapped the mayor’s family and brought them back to Greythorne Asylum, now known as Hysterium.Â
A two day standoff ended when the police finally broke in to find a grisly scene: the mayor’s children were eaten in a Eucharist ceremony, and most (but not all) engaged in a Jim Jones like mass suicide. The mayor’s wife was alive, but insane, having been forced to join in the ‘Eucharist’.  The asylum closed in the 1950’s when the whole building was overtaken by the fatal Hysterium fungus, hence the name was born forever to be known as Hysterium Haunted Asylum.
Other Characters:Â Â Â
Dr. John Pelgemese believed that the body should be improved as well as the mind, and performed many surgeries to help ‘evolve’ his patients.Â
Nurse Holloway, like her sister, Ratched of the cuckoo movie fame, runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy.
Janitor Dale Grafters cleaned up the mess of surgeries, keeping some parts for his own projects he conducted in the basement. Human Centipede type stuff.Â
